If I could get away with it, I'd put pictures of me when I was in my 20s and early 30s on my website and all of my marketing collateral. My skin was great. I was a good 25 pounds lighter. I had no grey hairs. And not a wrinkle or under-eye bag in sight. Ah, life was good...
But if those were on my site today, people would most definitely do a double-take when they meet me in person. They might even be shocked. I am. How did I let myself go? Wait, that's a story for another day.
Seriously.
We all change over time, and I actually believe most of us change for the better. We have life experience and have gained valuable skills from our work. And yes, we have aged in the process.
But who we are now is who shows up at meetings and online, and, that's who should be in the photos on our websites. A good photographer will find a way to make you look your best - as you are today. And personally, I think that's priceless.
I decided to talk about this recently because a client sent me photos for her new website's About page, and when I saw them, my jaw dropped. This wasn't the same person I was meeting in person, on Zoom and seeing on social media. This was someone very different. Lovely, but different.
Of course, this incident inspired a video. So take a look.
Remember: who shows up today is wiser, more interesting and most likely, more talented and capable than the person you were ages ago. Nothing wrong with that!
Let me know what you think in the comments. I'd love to hear from you.
