You have plenty of options for building a new website for your business. So why choose me? Because I have an easy-to-follow best practices approach that just works.
The Website Build & Design Plan - Discovery, Due Diligence, and Strategy
In this phase, I ask a lot of questions, and learn everything possible about your business, your market, your goals, your competitors and your ideal clients. I'll perform some keyword research to find the most relevant phrases and questions your ideal clients use to search for you. I'll create a simple Home page concept for you, with choices for colors, fonts and layouts so that you get an idea of the way the new website will look, feel and function overall. I will also give links to examples for inspiration. I'll also create a simple post-launch plan for you so that you can market yourself with ease and no sleaze, monitor the site's performance and maintain it on your own.
The Build and Design - Bringing the new site to life
Following the Website Build and Design Plan, I’ll start to bring your new website to life. You’ll get plenty of opportunities to review it. You will definitely be an integral part of this! As we get closer to readying the site for the public, I’ll test it on every browser and device and make sure it’s appearing and functioning as it should everywhere.
Management - Post-Launch plans
Some designers leave you alone after the site goes live. Not me! I like to make sure it’s working and that it’s helping your business grow. I’ll update it, back it up, and teach you some simple ways to maintain and edit the site. I'll also check security and speed, and every couple of months, we’ll talk SEO, fine-tune it, and discuss other changes you might need or updates that you want. My mission is to help you own a site that you AND your clients will LOVE.

What I love about my work
All of my clients are doing important, meaningful work. Whether they’re an elite sports coach, a highly-experienced life coach or a wealth management consultant, they’re all helping people do better and live better. All of my clients inspire me!
Some other interesting facts about moi:
- I was born in Tokyo, Japan. My mother is Japanese. My father, a U.S. Diplomat, was a Brooklyn native who never recovered from the Dodgers’ move to Los Angeles.
- I grew up in France and Switzerland before returning to the United States at the age of 11.
- My father nicknamed me “mischief mari,” because I was always poking my nose in business where it didn’t belong. Naturally I became a reporter.
- I hold a Bachelor’s in U.S. History from Barnard College, and a Master of Fine Arts in Screenwriting from the American Film Institute.
- I started my career in journalism at Dow Jones & Co., first in New York, then in Tokyo, followed by a couple of years as a producer-reporter with CNBC Asia.
- I took a sabbatical from journalism in 1997 to pursue a master’s degree in screenwriting, and launched my freelance career in 2000. I’ve been published in Vogue and the Wall Street Journal. Yay for me.
- In 2011, I launched my combined writing and website design business.
- I’m originally from Washington, D.C. I currently live in Altadena, California.
- I’m fairly fluent in French and Japanese.
- I’m married to a cinematographer. He shoots films and commercials. He’s from Norway. He has a funny accent.
- I’m a mom, too. These days I’m known more as Mimi’s Mom than Mari.
- I was very lucky to have a beautiful dog, Nunuk, a Malamute-Shepherd mix, in my life. I miss him everyday.
- I love to bake and decorate cookies. I published a book about decorated cookies called the coolest cookies on the planet.
- I love e.e. cummings. I think “The Wire” is the best TV series ever. I love Charlotte Bronte.
