I haven’t posted in a while, and I wanted to share why.
As some of you may know, my house was lost in the recent Eaton Canyon fire here in the Los Angeles area. So, life has been a little busy with fire-related matters.
We are heartbroken, shocked, and devastated. But we’re alright. We have each other, our cars, important documents, a lovely rental home, and good insurance. Our amazing friends and family have been incredibly supportive, constantly checking in and helping us get on the path to rebuilding our home and our lives.
I initially thought I’d keep everyone updated regularly. But each time I tried to post, I was either overwhelmed by urgent calls and emails or just completely drained.
There are moments when I reach for something only to remember it’s gone. Family photos, love letters from my husband, Mimi’s sweet drawings, treasured jewelry from my dad to my mom — irreplaceable things, all gone. Sometimes it’s something simpler, like a beautiful dress or a favorite pan I loved cooking with. The loss is immense.
I took some time off work, but eventually, clients called with new projects, and honestly, that was a blessing. Since I still have a lot to handle with rebuilding our home, I’m taking on fewer clients for now, being a bit more selective, and yes, taking a little time to breathe, too.
So, if you're hoping to work with me, please be patient if I don’t respond right away. But I will respond. And to those with new projects, you better bring your A-game because after all this, I plan to come back stronger, sharper, and more badass than ever.
See? I lost my house. But not who I am. I’m still Mari.
