I was asked recently what I love about my work. I kind of love it all, but there are parts of it that are just more enjoyable than others. One is wireframing, the sketching of the pages before I start working with actual colors, pictures, fonts and content that I need to put into the final website.
Wireframing, to me, is part of the dreaming process. I still don't have a clear idea about how the site will actually look, so I sketch pages out using just paper and pencil. A few years ago, I learned a very fun and practical approach from CharliMarieTV, a YouTuber with a great channel about design. I adapted her approach to fit me, and I've been doing it this way since.
I pretty much never show these sketches to clients. Most would have no idea what I'm showing them, and they might even misconstrue it. The way I see it, show the client as complete a version as possible from the start because that makes it easier for them to comprehend what they're looking at, what they like and don't like, and it helps them move forward.
Some designers use programs like Balsamiq to create wireframes, but I don't. I tried it but I felt that got in the way of just going with ideas and possibilities. Based on what I've discussed with the client, I then sketch and move forward to the mockups, which are the next step.
Anyway. Take a look at this video and let me know what you think.
I hope you enjoyed that!
And if you'd like to work with me, let me know. Just go to my Contact page and ask for a FREE consultation. We'll start with a discussion about where you are, what you're looking for, what's working on your current site, what's not and go from there. By the end of the discussion, I'll tell you the next big step you need to take in order to get the website that you need to help your business flourish.
