There's never a perfect time to commission the redesign of your website. I know plenty of firms and individuals who use their website for nearly a decade - updating it and maintaining it along the way, of course - and it works for them. It helps them raise brand awareness and it helps them get business.
But all websites need do-overs.
I'm not sure how long IGI had its previous website and I didn't push the team to find out. I was told by their General Counsel and a few other partners that they just felt it was time for change. Their founder had passed away a few years earlier, and they wanted to reflect the new direction of the company, as well as present a more polished, modern look.
This redesign took longer than most of my projects, and that's because IGI is one of those rare firms that does everything as a team. I mean, everything. Almost everyone in the firm joined Zoom meetings to voice their opinion, give suggestions and make requests for specific changes. They're also a very busy group - sometimes meetings were rescheduled at the last moment. But when we did gather, it was always enlightening and helpful and ultimately, a very real, very productive collaboration.
The previous IGI site did look a bit outdated and to me, it lacked clear messaging. It wasn't horrible! And you know me, I don't impugn other designers' work. But I felt IGI was ripe for a do-over and together, that's what we did. The end result is a nice, clean-looking site with strong messaging, clearer navigation, original photography (well, some stock photos had to be used), and some basic yet effective SEO.
